CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois volleyball player Kristie Berwanger was named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V First Team CoSIDA announced.

Berwanger was named to the first team after earning third-team honors as a sophomore.

The right side hitter boasts a 4.0 GPA in fashion design merchandising and averages a team-high 3.04 kills and 0.96 blocks per game on the season and is one of four Salukis with more than 245 kills. Addtionally, the SIU junior contributes 2.21 digs-per-game.

Berwanger is one of six Missouri Valley Conference volleyball student-athletes have been named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams. Illinois State's Peggy Reissen, Evansville's Julie Walroth and Bradley's Jenna Harrison were named in District V along with Berwanger while Creighton's Abby Baumann and Wichita State's Sara Lungren were recognized in District VII.
