Bloomington, Ind. - The Southern Illinois volleyball team won three of four matches on the opening weekend of spring play at Indiana Saturday, March 29.

The Salukis opened the tournament with their only loss to Louisville (23-25, 17-25), followed by three-straight victories over Indiana (25-22, 16-25, 15-12), IUPUI (25-22, 19-25, 15-12) and Indianapolis (28-26, 18-25, 15-11).

Middle blocker Marina Medic led the Salukis with 24 kills on the day followed by right side hitter Kristie Berwanger with 21 and fellow middle Chandra Roberson with 18. Berwanger led the Salukis in blocking with one solo and seven block assists, while Roberson added one solo and six block assists.

Libero Kristy Elswick recorded 139 digs for 12.6 per game average, while setter Brooklyn Robbins added 85 assists, one solo and five block assists.

Outside hitters Kelsie Laughlin and Jennifer Berwanger combined for 23 kills and 57 digs.

The Salukis continue the spring season when they compete in the SEMO Tournament April 12. April 19, the team returns home to host their own spring tournament.
