MUNCIE, Ind. - The Southern Illinois volleyball team defeated Ball State, 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17), improving to 4-0 for the best start to a season since 2002. The Salukis (4-0) grabbed a victory in the first two sets before dropping a close third set to the Cardinals (2-3). Up 2-1, SIU wasn't ready to interrupt an undefeated season, coming back and taking the fourth set for the win. Sophomore Jennifer Berwanger continued her success from last weekend, recording another double-double. Berwanger hit .227 with 14 kills and 15 digs. "Jen did great," Winkeler said. "She led us with 14 kills and 15 digs, her second double-double of the season." Senior libero Kristy Elswick also helped the Salukis, contributing 18 digs for a career total of 1,578. "I'm overall pleased," said Winkeler. "Its a win and we showed we could come back after getting beat in a set." The Salukis continue action tomorrow morning at 10 am ET against Purdue, and will face Tennessee Tech at 5:00 ET.
