CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. - The Southern Illinois University women's golf team is in sixth place after day one at the El Diablo Intercollegiate hosted by Eastern Kentucky. The Salukis shot a 634 (322-312) on the first day of competition. Ball State is in first place after two rounds, Florida Atlantic is in second place, James Madison is in third, University of Indianapolis is in fourth and USC Upstate is in fifth. The Salukis are tied for sixth place with St. John's University, just four strokes out of the top-five. Braidy Hood led SIU with 154 (77-77) in the first two rounds, while Meg Gilley was close behind with 157 (81-76). Alisha Matthews shot a 160 (81-79) and Kate Laegeler shot a 166 (83-83). Alex Anderson rounded out the Saluki lineup with a 176 (96-80). Head coach Diane Daugherty was happy with the team's performance, especially the second round scores. "I was happy Braidy broke through her two 77's, she's back where she should be," Daugherty said. "We're looking to have a good solid round tomorrow and move into the top-five."
The Salukis continue tomorrow at 8 a.m. with one 18-hole round to wrap up play at the El Diablo Intercollegiate.
