AUSTIN, Texas - Southern Illinois University's Ray Scotten finished 11th at the NCAA Men's Track & Field Championships Saturday, narrowly missing All-American status that goes to the top eight finishers.

Scotten cleared 5.40 meters for his best mark, but did so on his third and final attempt at that height, meaning he was pushed into 11th place overall behind four other competitors who also maxed out at 5.40.

The sophomore from Indianapolis, Ind. may have been hindered by a fall he took during warm-ups that knocked him momentarily unconcious. He was cleared to compete, however, by the attending training staff.

Scotten's career-high in the pole vault is 5.50 meters, and if he had cleared that mark, would have finished no worse than seventh.
