Pre-SIU: Three-time all-conference and two-time all-state performer...placed eighth at the state meet with a jump of 6-4 as a sophomore, which set a school record...set a varsity record in the high jump as a junior...was named MVP as a senior...Valedictorian of his high school class and member of the National Honor Society...also played football and basketball, where he earned all-conference honors.
