Fayetteville, Ark. - The SIU men's tennis team competed in the ITA Central Regionals during the weekend with Eric West seeing the most victory for the Salukis as the qualified for the semi-finals of the consolation singles before falling in the round.

West played fellow teammate Anton Leonenko in a second round matchup as West won the battle 6-2,6-4 and then defeated James McArthur of Saint Louis 6-3,6-3 to enter the semifinal round where he lost to Maor Aumeuller of Nebraska 6-1,6-0.

Hugo Vidal played in the main draw of men's singles as fell after the second round to Maor Zirkin of Drake, 6-1,6-0.

"Overall I was pleased with our effort we improved on our performance a year ago," Head coach Dann Nelson said. "I think we competed pretty well and had a good tournament."

The duo of Eric West and Anton Leonenko paired up in doubles play as they made it to the quarterfinals after defeating the duo of Teivans-Obrist of Wichita State University in round one, then Miljevic-Reichelt of Illinois State in round two. The duo fell to Byrne-Nedovyesov in the semifinals 8-0.

The tournament concludes the Salukis fall season and will resume spring play on Jan. 23 at the MVC Individual Tournament.
