Men's Tennis falls to Drake at MVC Championships

OMAHA, Neb. - The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team fell to Drake in the second round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Championships. The Salukis fell to the Bulldogs, 4-2, in Omaha, Neb., ending their season. The Salukis earned the doubles point, capturing a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Lucas Waked and Anton Leonenko teamed up at No. 1 doubles, defeating Maor Zirkin and Dalibor Pavic, 8-6. Hugo Vidal and Sebastian Rubiano grabbed the win at No. 2 doubles over Ricardo Lau and Bokang Setshogo, while Mariano Restrepo and Chase Miller were unable to hold off for the win at No. 3 doubles against Ivan Mendoza and Mauricio Ballivian. In singles action, No. 76 ranked Pavic defeated Waked 6-3, 6-2 at the top seed. Zirkin captured the win at No. 2 singles over Vidal, 6-2, 6-2. Restrepo grabbed the win at No. 3 singles agaisnt Mauricino Ballivian, 6-4, 6-3. Leonenko was unable to hold off Setshogo at No. 4 singles, falling 6-2, 6-2. No. 5 singles was not finished, while Miller fell to Mendoza at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1. The Salukis finished the season 12-14 overall, 3-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
