CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team fell to Eastern Illinois today, 4-3. The Salukis (8-12, 1-3) took a break from conference play to take on the Panthers (13-8) in Charleston.

Lucas Waked and Anton Leonenko defeated Robert Stedman and Chris Thomas, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Mariano Restrepo and Sebastian Rubiano battled at No. 2 doubles against Sean Bush and Jordan Nestrud, but fell 8-5. Hugo Vidal and Chase Miller were unable to hold off Jeff Rutherford and Vuk Milicevic, falling 8-1.

The Salukis took four of the six singles matches, but it wasn't enough for a win. Waked defeated Rutherford 7-6, 7-5, while Vidal grabbed the victory over Milicehiv, 6-3, 6-2. Restrepo fell to Stedman at No. 3 singles, and Leonenko fell in three sets at the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Rubiano played a strong match at No. 5 singles, sweeping Thomas, 6-0, 6-0. Miller dropped his first set at No. 6 singles, 6-0, retiring the second set to give Felipe Gama the win.

The Salukis will return to action this weekend at home as they take on Bradley and Illinois State.
