Men's Tennis get first conference win

OMAHA, Neb. - The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team defeated Creighton today, 6-1, marking their first conference win of the season. The Salukis improve to an 8-11 overall record, 1-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. SIU (8-11, 1-3) swept the Bluejays (7-8, 1-4) in doubles to gain the 1-0 lead. Lucas Waked and Anton Leonenko defeated Joe Eckert and Nikita Dudar at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Mariano Restrepo and Sebastian Rubiano teamed up at No. 2 doubles, grabbing the win over Jose Guerra and Brian Ward. Chase Miller and Hugo Vidal finished off doubles with an 8-6 victory over Bryan Lube and James McAvoy. The Salukis took five of the six singles matches to give them the 6-1 win. Waked cruised in his match against Guerra with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Vidal and Restrepo won No. 2 and No. 3 singles in three sets, while Leonenko grabbed the win at No. 4 singles against Ward. Rubiano took No. 5 singles in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over McAvoy. Miller was unable to hold off Lube at No. 6 singles, falling 6-0, 6-1. The Salukis will take a break from conference play as they travel to Eastern Illinois Wednesday for a 3 p.m. match. Southern Illinois 6, Creighton 1
