Men's Tennis falls to UIC, 4-2

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team fell to the University of Illinois-Chicago, Sunday in Chicago. The Salukis are now 7-8 as they gear up for conference play this week. With doubles not being played, the two teams jumped into singles where Lucas Waked battled for the win at the top seed, defeating Sebastian Lystad, 6-3, 6-3. Hugo Vidal competed at No. 2 singles against Adriano Liccardo, falling 6-4, 6-2. Mariano Restrepo dropped his match against Bastian Harbo at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Anton Leonenko fell in the first set against Eric Fey, 6-3. Leonenko rallied back in the second set for a 7-6 win. With the point coming down to the last set, Leonenko fought hard for the win, but fell 6-1. Sebastian Rubiano defeated Danny Wilson at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Tim O'Brien of UIC won by default at No. 6 singles, giving UIC the 4-2 win. The Salukis will prepare for their first conference match, Thursday against Indiana State. Match time is set for 3 p.m. at the University Courts. UIC 4, Southern Illinois 2
