NIU edges Men's Tennis

DEKALB, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team dropped their match against Northern Illinois University, 7-0, Saturday in Dekalb. The Salukis are now 7-6 after falling to the Huskies. Northern Illinois (7-4) capture the doubles point, taking an early 1-0 lead over the Salukis (7-7). Lucas Waked and Anton Leonenko teamed up at No. 1 doubles, but were unable to hold off Brian Livingston and Adam Ford, falling 8-0. Mariano Restrepo and Sebastian Rubiano fought a tough battle against Jimmy Chu and Alex Friesen at No. 2 doubles, but dropped their match, 8-6. Alfonso Monroy and Matt Hansen of NIU won by default at No. 3 doubles against Chase Miller and Hugo Vidal. Waked fought a tough match against the Huskie's No. 1 player, Livingston, but fell in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Vidal took on Friesen at No. 2 singles, but dropped the match 6-2, 7-5. Restrepo won the first set at No. 3 singles, but fell to Ford, 2-6, 6-0, 7-5. Leonenko also took his match into three sets at No. 4 singles, but was unable to hold off Chu, who took the win, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Rubiano paired off against Hansen at No. 5 singles, falling 7-5, 6-3. Javier Bernage won by default against Miller at No. 6 singles. The Salukis will be back in action Sunday at Illinois-Chicago.
