Men's Tennis defeats Saint Louis, 6-1

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team defeated Saint Louis University, 6-1, Tuesday in Saint Louis. The Salukis are now 6-6 as they head back for their first home match of the season, Wednesday against SIU-Edwardsville. Against Saint Louis (7-8), Lucas Waked went undefeated for the second match in a row, as he teamed up with Anton Leonenko at No. 1 doubles. The two defeated Felipe Acosta and Paul Feder, 8-2. Mariano Resptrepo and Sebastian Rubiano paired up at No. 2 doubles with an 8-5 win over P.J. Hendrie and Sean McManus. Hugo Vidal and Chase Miller wrapped up at No. 3 doubles with a victory over Marcus Fadul and Adam Reeb. The Salukis (6-6) were 1-0 heading in to singles, with Waked grabbing a 7-6, 6-4 win over Acosta at the top seed. Vidal competed at No. 2 singles, defeating Hendrie 6-2, 6-4. Restrepo captured the win at No. 3 singles against McManus, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. Leonenko battled Fadul at No. 4 singles, winning 6-3, 6-4. Rubiano paired off against McSpadden at No. 5 singles, with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Miller fought a tough match at No. 6 singles, but was unable to hold off Feder, falling 6-2, 3-6, 6-10. "We played well today in doubles and came out strong in singles as well, winning the first set in all six matches," said head coach Dann Nelson. "I am proud of this team for their attitude and business-like approach in this win."
The Salukis welcome SIU-Edwardsville in their first home match of the season, Wednesday. Match time is set for 3 p.m. at University Courts. Southern Illinois 6, Saint Louis 1
