CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team won its second match in as many days when they swept the Cougars of Chicago State, 7-0, earlier today.

"I am pleased with the way the team responded after playing very hard on Saturday," said head coach Dann Nelson.

The Salukis started out the day on the doubles courts, winning two of three matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

"Our No. 1 doubles team came through big for us today after losing at No. 2 and then winning at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point," said Nelson.

The Dawgs continued their dominance over the Cougars in singles play, sweeping all six matches. Nelson was pleased with his team's performance, especially the play of Sergio Sanchez and Felipe Villasenor.

"Sergio showed some heart at No. 2 singles after losing the first set 6-0, and then coming all the way back and defeating his opponent 0-6, 6-2, 10-2," said Nelson. "Felipe played very well in his debut match at No. 1 singles with a win over a very good opponent."

The Salukis look to use the momentum from today's win when they open conference play on Wednesday.

"We are now 7-3 and are playing well going into conference play opening with Indiana State next Wednesday in Terre Haute," said Nelson.
