Memphis edges Men's Tennis, 4-3

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team dropped their match at Memphis Saturday, 4-3. The Salukis are now 5-6 as they head into a home match Sunday against Tennessee Tech. Lucas Waked and Anton Leonenko got the match rolling at No. 1 doubles, with an 8-5 win over Amrit Narasimhan and Charlie Ramsay. Hugo Vidal and Felipe Villasenor were unable to hold onto to No. 2 doubles, falling to Leon Masemann and Jimmy Khougassian, 8-5. Sebastian Rubiano and Chase Miller teamed up and No. 3 doubles, dropping their match against Spencer Heflin and Jordan Smith, 8-3. Waked came out strong at No. 1 singles defeating Narasimhan 7-5, 2-6, 10-5. Vidal kept up the momentum at No. 2 singles, winning his match against Nasemann, 6-4, 1-6, 10-5. Leonenko dropped his No. 3 singles match against Smith, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 4 singles, Villasenor took on Michael Gaerthoeffner, falling 6-1, 6-4. Rubiano grabbed an easy win over Ramsay at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Miller wrapped the match up at No. 6 singles, but was unable to hold off Benedikt Fischer, falling 6-1, 6-0. The Salukis fought a tough match but were unable to hold off Memphis, with a 4-3 final in favor of the Tigers. SIU will be back in action Sunday as they take on Tennessee Tech in Carbondale for their first home match of the season. Memphis 4, Southern Illinois 3
