Oct. 11, 2009
By Dana Ingraham NORMAL, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's golf team continued its fall schedule Sunday, competing in the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at Illinois State University. Round one at the par-70, 6,681-yard Weibring Golf Club began at 8:30 a.m. this morning, and that would be all the 15 teams would get through as the second round was postponed due to darkness. After 18 holes, the Salukis stand in a three-way tie for 12th place with Missouri Valley Conference foes Creighton and Northern Iowa, posting a score of 309. Senior Patrick Scheil leads SIU tied for third place out of 90 individuals, carding a two-over-par 72. Jake Erickson and Blake Driskell join Scheil in the 70s, firing first rounds of 77 and 79. Jeff Miller (81) and Jordan Cox (84) complete the scorecard for Southern Illinois after day one. SIU fell just outside the top-five at this tournament last year, settling for a sixth-place finish with a 54-hole score of 878. The Salukis will look to move up the leaderboard Monday morning in the conclusion of round two and the third and final round. A shotgun start will commence at 8:30 a.m. D.A.
