Travis Stepps begins his fifth year on the coaching staff at Southern and is in his third year as a full-time assistant. He is the lone holdover from the Jerry Kill staff.

Stepps works with the team's defensive backs and has mentored five all-conference players in his tenure, including All-Americans Alexis Moreland and Craig Turner.

Stepps most recently coached Turner, one of the top cover corners in the conference. Turner earned first-team all-conference honors in 2007.

Prior to SIU, Stepps spent two seasons on the staff at Washburn University. As a player, Stepps was a two-time All-American defensive back. The Fort Scott, Kan. native earned a bachelor's degree in social studies and education and a master's degree in sports management from Southern Illinois.
