Saluki cheerleader Kristi Yamaoka, who was injured during a routine in yesterday's men's basketball game versus Bradley, issued a statement Monday afternoon from Saint Louis University hospital, where she is listed in fair condition.

"My family and I want to thank everyone, especially the students, fans and alumni of SIU for their concern and support for me right now. I'm feeling much better and am looking forward to getting back to school and back to my team. My fall and injuries won't deter me from continuing to support my teammates, and as soon as I recover fully, I hope to be back to cheering for SIU."

She asked to delay interviews until after she is released.

Her coach, Jennifer Graeff, said Yamaoka remains positive and upbeat.

"She was so concerned about the final score," Graeff said. "Then she said she wanted to see the video of the game, so she could see the last four minutes that she missed.

"She's the epitome of a cheerleader."
