CARBONDALE, Ill.-Southern Illinois University junior righthanded pitcher Cody Adams was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. Adams went as the 62nd pick overall.

A native of Viola, Ill., Adams compiled a 6-4 record and 3.75 ERA in 14 starts this season. He threw a pair of complete games and led the Salukis in strikeouts with 78. Adams also walked just 23 in 96 innings of work.

Adams is 21-13 with a 3.64 ERA in 57 career appearances and 36 starts at SIU. He tossed five complete games and recorded 199 strikeouts in 262.1 innings in his three years as a Saluki. Adams ranks among the school's career leaders in both games started (t7th) and innings pitched (9th).

Adams is the highest draft pick in 14 years under head coach Dan Callahan. He is the first Saluki to go in the top three rounds of the draft since LHP Eric Haberer was a third-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004.
