Kelly earns first-team all-MVC honors for second year in a row

By Jeff Honza CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University junior catcher Mark Kelly earned first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference honors, the league announced today. Kelly, who hails from Hanover Park, Ill., made the first-team for the second year in a row. Kelly has been SIU's hottest hitter as of late, hitting safely in 16 of his last 17 games. He contributed multiple-hits on 11 occasions during that span. Overall, Kelly ranks first on the team in batting average (.371), runs scored (42), doubles (18), RBI (43), total bases (107), slugging percentage (.510), on-base percentage (.457) and walks (31). He ranks seventh in the MVC in batting average. Kelly, the only Saluki who started in all 53 games this season, finished the regular-season as SIU's leader in batting average and RBI for the second consecutive year. SIU also had three honorable mention selections, including senior infielder Tyler Lairson, senior lefthanded pitcher Shawn Joy and junior righthanded pitcher Adam Curynski. First Team Second Team
