CARBONDALE, Ill. - Freshman Chris Murphy delivered a two-RBI walk-off single and Southern Illinois University (15-11) overcame a four-run deficit in the ninth inning to beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee (5-18), 10-9, earlier today at a soggy Abe Martin Field.

Trailing, 9-5, SIU rallied for five runs on five hits in the bottom of the ninth.

Adam Hills led off with a single to left and went to second when Mark Kelly walked. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on a double by Tyler Bullock. Aaron Roberts singled home pinch runner Chase Sanford on the next play. Dean Cademartori then doubled off the wall in right center, giving the Dawgs runners at second and third with no outs.

Shortly after Owen Mackedon struck out, Murphy belted Panther reliever Cuyler Franzke's first pitch down the right field line to plate both Cademartori and Roberts for the thrilling 10-9 finish.

Murphy's base hit was SIU's first walk-off hit since Kelly singled in the bottom of the ninth against Eastern Illinois on May 15, 2007.

SIU led, 5-3, after three innings, but UWM scored twice in the fourth, sixth and seventh frames to build its four-run cushion.

The Salukis went scoreless for six innings prior to coming back in the ninth.

Adam Curynski (2-1) was credited with the win in relief. Curynski allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings.

Cody Adams started the game and allowed seven runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings. Adams, who has given up a combined 24 hits in his last three starts, also struck out seven and walked three.

All five of SIU's earned runs in the ninth were charged to UWM reliever Matt Holzheuter, who fell to 0-1. He gave up five runs and four hits and walked one without recording an out.

Offensively, SIU registered a season-high 18 hits, with Scott Elmendorf going 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI to lead the way. Elmendorf's four hits tied a career-high. Mackedon followed with three hits and a run scored. Murphy, Hills, Bullock and Roberts had multiple-hits as well. Eight of nine Saluki starters got a hit for the second game in a row.

Like SIU, the Panthers also saw eight of their nine starters get a hit. The Panthers collected 11 on the day. Jesse Hart and Doug Dekoning had a game-high three apiece.

SIU and UWM resume their series at 2 p.m., CST, Saturday. Lefthander Shawn Joy (3-2) will start on the mound.
