Mark Obszanski

Developed a solid breaking ball over the course of last season...has a great physical presence and good velocity and has potential to be a key component of SIU's pitching staff...transferred to SIU from Kaskaskia Community College in 2005.

2005: Ranked fourth on the team with 18 appearances, all in relief...recorded 14 strikeouts in 16.2 innings...also combined on one shutout and earned a save...posted a season-high three Ks in 1.2 innings en route to his only save of the season against Chicago State (Mar. 11)...threw at least one inning of shutout baseball in 11 of his appearances.

Pre-SIU: Collected a 2-0 record with nine saves in 19 appearances at Kaskaskia College...also boasting an impressive 1.91 ERA, he struck out 27 batters to eight walks in 22 innings...picked up nine saves which ranked fourth in the nation, according to the National Junior College Athletic Association...prior to junior college, he attended Munster High School.
