Cross Country women finish eighth, men 14th at Notre Dame Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Southern Illinois University cross country women finished eighth and the men 14th at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday.

The women's team was led by sophomore Nefeteri Williams in the 5K with a time of 18:16, which was good enough for a 13th-place finish

Sophomore A'Seret Dokubo finished in 35th with a time of 18:37 and Freshman Megan Hoelscher posted a 18:43 to finish 42nd.

Also competing for SIU were Emily Toennies (80th, 19:06), Toni Whitfield (126th, 19:43), Katie Rick (173rd, 20:34), Ryan Eichelberger (187th, 20:55) and Merry Lanker (205th, 21:54).

Junior Mohamed Mohamed was SIU's top finisher in the 8K with a time of 24:21 for a 19th-place finish. Jeff Schirmer finished next for SIU in 87th with a time of 25:27.

Also competing for the Salukis were Greg McBride (109th, 25:49), Kyle Kirchner (115th, 25:51), Jason Ordway (117th, 25:53) and Tyler Bradford (146th, 26:26). The Dawgs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Notre Dame Invitational.

Four members of SIU's men's team ran in the non-team 8K. Mark Bowman (11th, 26:06), Dan Dunbar (20th, 26:36), Jason Brosseau (37th, 27:28) and Tom Gentry (39th, 27:37).

 

 

The Saluki women will return to action on Friday, Oct. 12 in Peoria, Ill. at the Bradley Invitational. The men will return on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
