Five Track and Field athletes compete at Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Five Southern Illinois track and field athletes finished in the top-20 in their respective events at the Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday and Friday on the University of Indianapolis campus. Tom Smith competed in two events for the Salukis finishing ninth in the hammer and 11th in the shot put. He threw 52-06.50 in the shot and 182-05 in the hammer, personal bests in each event. A'Seret Dokubo finished sixth in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:10, while Kendra Deck ran 1:04.01 in the 400 hurdles for 18th place. In the women's triple jump, Mikeya Nicholson and Judeka Adams finished 12th and 14th respectively. Nicholson jumped 38-06.75 and Adams, 38-02.25. To be eligible for competition, each athlete had to run, throw or jump at or above qualifying standards set for each event between June 22, 2006 and June 17, 2007. They must be citizens of the United States and be at least 14 years old on the day of competition but not turn 20 years old during 2007. Brittany Riley is set to compete on Saturday in the women's hammer at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, also in Indianapolis. This meet will serve as the selection meet for 2007 Pan American Games (July 22-29) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
