ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois University senior thrower Brittany Riley was named the Missouri Valley Conference Most Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Year following the league's Indoor Championships this weekend.

The Flossmoor, Ill. native won the third Valley weight throw title of her career with a throw of 79-02.50 (24.14m).

The mark set a new MVC meet record, breaking the previous record of 75-10.25 set by Riley at the 2007 Championships.

Riley is the only American to throw over 24 meters this season. Her throw at the Championships was the fourth to surpass the distance.

She currently holds the MVC and NCAA season best with a throw of 79-06.00 (24.23m).

Riley will next travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15.
