Track and Field teams pick up three top-20 finishes day one of NCAA Mideast Regionals

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Southern Illinois track and field teams picked up three top-20 finishes day one of the NCAA Mideast Regionals at the Audrey J. Walton Track Friday afternoon. Ty Davis ran 2:08.20 in the women's 800-meter run for 11th place, the top SIU finish of the day. The senior ran her final race in a Saluki uniform after a decorated career, winning six Missouri Valley Conference titles, four academic scholar-athlete awards and a top-15 finish at the 2006 NCAA National Championships. Three-time MVC champion, Bianca Stuart finished 18th in the long jump with a leap of 18-05.75. Andrea Norris ran 24.69 in the 200 for 20th place. For the men, Sammy Biggs finished 23rd in his first regional meet in a time of 47.67, while Joe Mueller threw 182-01 in the hammer throw for 24th place. Five Salukis will compete Saturday, all in the field events. Brittany Riley will attempt to defend her Mideast Regional hammer title at 11 a.m., and at 3:30 p.m. she will also compete in the discus. Sasha Leeth will throw hammer, while Brenton Siemons attempts to qualify for nationals in the shot put at 2 p.m. Antwon Stapleton will compete in the triple jump at 4 p.m.
