Track and Field teams finished third and fourth at Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Southern Illinois track and field teams picked up five meet titles at the Indiana Invitational, the women finishing in third place, the men fourth. The meet host, Indiana won the women's title with 198 points followed by Michigan State with 177 points. The Salukis finished third with 143 points and Indiana State fourth with 141. In the men's race, Michigan State won with 196 points. Indiana finished second with 185, Indiana State third with 163 and SIU fourth with 117. Bianca Stuart won the women's long jump with a leap of 20-01.75 (6.14m). Teammate Nina Okafor finished fifth at 17-07 (6.14m). Gwen Berry won the women's hammer throw with a toss of 191-10 (58.48m). Sasha Leeth finished second (191-02, 58.27m),Jeneva McCall third (171-01, 52.15m) and Jordan Harris fifth (161-10, 49.34m). Cody Doerflein was the third meet title winner Saturday, winning the men's pole vault clearing 16-06.75 (5.05m) with a regional-qualifying mark. In the rest of the women's events, Judeka Adams finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 38-10.50 (11.85m), Mercedes Dunn fourth in the event at 36-01.50 (11.01m). In the women's pole vault, Miracle Thompson finished fifth clearing 11-09.75 (3.60m). Gwen Berry finished third in the shot put with a toss of 48-07.50 (14.82m).
In the women's running events, Stuart finished third in the 100-meter dash in 12.18. A'Seret Dokubo ran 11:41.29 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to finish fifth.
On the men's side, Joe Paradiso finished second in the shot put (55-11.25, 17.05m) and third in the hammer (185-02, 56.43m). In the discus, Jake Dieters finished third with a toss of 173-07 (52.90m). Tom Smith finished third in the javelin throwing 179-00 (54.55m). Trenton McKinney finished fourth in the long jump with a best jump of 22-04.25 (6.81m). In the men's running events, Stevie Warren finished second in both the 100-meter (10.70) and 200-meter (21.61) dashes. Stephen Arvanis finished fourth in the 800 in 1:52.33 and Brad Wrage came in fifth in the steeplechase at 9:56.04. The Salukis return to action April 24-25 at the Western Kentucky Invitational. |
