Track and Field picks up three meet titles day one of Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Southern Illinois track and field teams picked up three men's titles day one of the Vanderbilt Invitational. Brenton Siemons, Jeff Schirmer and Jason Ordway all picked up meet titles the first day of competition. Siemons won the men's shot put with a toss of 57-03, while Schirmer and Ordway picked up wins in distance events. Schirmer ran 3:53.22 in the 1,500-meter run, while Ordway crossed the finish line of the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:27.50. Other top finishes for the men came in the pole vault. Blake Brachear and Justin Kozak finished fourth and fifth respectively. Brachear cleared a career-best 15-11, while Kozak passed 15-07. On the women's side, Brittany Riley finished third in the shot with a throw of 46-05.50. In the steeplechase, A'Seret Dokubo and Megan Hoelscher finished third and fourth. Dokubo ran 10:54.14, Hoelscher, 11:18.52. The Salukis return to action Saturday. Meet results available at www.siusalukis.com following the completion of competition.
