Milleville breaks school, conference, facility record day one of the SIU Spring Classic

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois thrower Mark Milleville used his final attempt of the day to launch the hammer 216-04, to set a new SIU, Missouri Valley Conference and McAndrew Stadium record Friday afternoon during the first day of the SIU Spring Classic. Milleville broke a four-year-old school record set by former Saluki Adam Judge at 216-01. Judge also held the MVC all-time best mark. Milleville ran away with the meet title by over 25 feet, qualifying for the NCAA regional meet. Teammate Brenton Siemons threw 182-11 to finish third and also regionally qualify. Matt Whalen finished fifth for the Salukis with a throw of 175-00 and Joe Mueller finished ninth at 171-02. In the women's hammer, three Salukis finished in the top five with Brittany Riley taking the meet title with a regional qualifying mark of 191-10. Megan Cenkush finished second for the Dawgs with a toss of 168-09, while Janine Batchelor finished fifth at 164-04. Both Saluki teams are in first place after just one event scored. The women hold first with 22 points, followed by Marquette and Northern Illinois tied for second with six points. The SIU men sit in first with 20 points. Indiana State is in second with 10 points, followed by Illinois State with eight points. Field events will resume Saturday at 10 a.m., the running events starting at 11 a.m.
