Riley delivers second-longest throw in U.S. History in first day of Saluki Booster

By Jeff Honza CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University junior thrower Brittany Riley had the third-longest throw in U.S. history earlier tonight in the first day of the Saluki Booster at SIU Rec Center. Riley won the weight throw with a school record, U.S. collegian and facility best toss of 77-05.50. A native of Flossmoor, Ill., Riley had throws of 22.32m and 22.84m leading up to her 23.61m mark. She now ranks behind current record-holder Erin Gilreath (79-06) and Amber Campbell (78-08.50). Riley was one of three Salukis to finish in the top-five in the weight throw. Sasha Leeth followed in second-place with a throw of 58-07.25 (17.86m), while Jasmine Matthews took fourth with a heave of 51-09.25 (15.78m). Leeth and Matthews established personal bests. On the men's side, Brenton Siemons and Joe Mueller finished second and third in the weight throw, respectively. Siemons threw a career-best 60-03.25 (18.37m) and Mueller followed with a personal best 59-00.25 (17.99m). In the women's long jump, Bianca Stuart provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor meet. She won the event with a jump of 20-03.00 (6.17m). The Saluki Booster resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m.
