Your routine must be your own choreography to your own music. Please make sure that you pick appropriate music with no foul language or inappropriate words. The routine can be 55 seconds to 1 minute and five seconds in length. Showcase things in which you excel. If you are limber, show it! If you can jump or spin, show it. If you are good at jazz or hip hop, show it! You will be taught a very short pom routine if you make it past the first cut.

Interview: A personality interview will be conducted after the first cut at the try-out. This is also a part of your final score. Each participant must submit their high school coach's name and number or studio dance teacher's name and number on their try-out application.

What to wear: For each workshop you will need to wear dance pants OR black shorts with black dance tights. Your top must be tight fitting or a body suit. Please no t-shirts. For the Try-out you will need to wear dance pants or black shorts with black dance tights. Your top must be a sports bra top. If you need support you can wear more than one sports bra top. It is strongly suggested that you wear dance shoes for the try-out.

Picture: You must attach a picture to your application or bring one the first day of the try-outs.

Grades: You must have a 2.0 grade point average to be a Saluki Shaker. You must be enrolled in 12 semester hours per semester.

Camp: Camp is mandatory. If you can not attend camp you will not be able to stay on the team. Sometimes fall try-outs are offered but not every year. This would be a chance you would have to take if you decide not to try-out this Spring. We do practice during the summer. We usually practice once a month in June and twice in July. We leave the first week of August for camp.

Classes: Each dancer must sign up for the music class once on the team.

Physical/Insurance: Each participant must have a physical this year before the try-out. Please have your family physician or the SIU Health Service fill out the mandatory physical form. Current SIU students can have this physical done at the health service for under $10. Please also bring a copy of your insurance card, front and back. Returning members that are trying out do not have to have another physical. Those new participants can download this physical form at http://siusalukis.cstv.com/ot/silu-cheerleaderstryouts.html It is on the SIU Cheerleading try-out page. Physical papers can be brought the day of try-outs but applications must be turned in by April 10.

Saluki Shaker Team:
The Saluki Shaker team is picked by a panel of judges. The team is picked on a curve, there is no set number. The team will not have more than 22 members. The Saluki Shakers compete at Nationals in Orlando, Florida each year. The Saluki Shakers perform at all home football and basketball games. We have a lot of fun...If you have any questions please e-mail coach Tawmi Conley at ddsshhcc@aol.com. The team roster will be posted the evening of try-outs.
